Air Source Heat Pumps are the most energy efficient method of providing heat and hot water to a modern, well-insulated property.

Benefits of Air Source Heat Pumps?

Long lifespan (20 years plus if properly maintained)
Lower fuel bills
No fuel deliveries and storage
Zero carbon emissions
Easier to install than Ground Source Heat Pumps with comparable efficiency
Combines very well with underfloor heating OR radiators
Eligible for government's Renewable Heat Incentive

How does it work?

Air Source Heat Pumps work by extracting heat energy from the air. This heat energy is used to boil a refrigerant. The heat generated from this refrigeration cycle is then used to provide heating and hot water. As amazing as this sounds, Air Source Heat Pumps can comfortably deal with temperatures of -15°C and lower. They have been using them in Scandinavia for years, where it gets even colder than Scotland! In fact, the refrigeration cycle is so efficient that an Air Source Heat Pump can put out 3-4 kilowatt-hours of usable heat for every 1 kilowatt-hour of electrical energy put in. That is an efficiency of 300-400%... no boiler in the world can compete with that!

Is it for me?

If you have a modern, well-insulated property then you should definitely consider an Air Source Heat Pump. The remarkable efficiency of the technology makes it a must for any new build property. Air Source Heat Pumps are suitable for both domestic and commercial properties and work particularly well with underfloor heating. However, there are a number of things to consider before you commit. Have a read of this article to see if it is definitely for you.

Ground Source or Air Source?

Ground Source Heat Pumps are only slightly more efficient than Air Source Heat Pumps but the additional cost and disruption of installation is massive. It is our considered opinion that Air Source Heat Pumps offer greater overall value for money than Ground Source Heat Pumps.

The low running costs of an Air Source Heat Pump make it an excellent investment. The fuel savings compared to oil and LPG are massive and even compare well with a mains gas boiler. As an MCS accredited installer, all of our installations are eligible for the government's Renewable Heat Incentive, which actually pays you to generate heat. If the initial costs are an issue then an interest free loan of up to £10,000 is available from the Energy Saving Trust.
